That's exactly what we went for with this creative Las Vegas maternity photography session.
This session was especially fun because the mama-to-be wasn't a new client. She had previously worked with me for her Las Vegas elopement, and when she came back to Vegas, she reached out about doing a creative maternity session.
Obviously, I was very into this idea.
So... what should we do for a maternity session?
When someone tells me they want a creative session, I don't want to immediately give them a list of the same five locations everyone uses.
Instead, I like to start with what they actually like.
We tossed around some ideas and eventually landed on something that felt very Vegas, very fun, and very them:

We headed downtown to Evel Pie on Fremont Street, because if you're going to build an entire maternity session around pizza, you might as well actually eat pizza.
We got photos of her enjoying a slice, hanging out inside, and embracing the ridiculousness of doing a maternity photoshoot at a pizza place.
And that's kind of the point.
Your maternity photos don't have to take themselves too seriously.

After the pizza portion of the session, we took the photos outside around Fremont Street.
The neon, signs, old-school Vegas details, and general chaos of downtown gave us a completely different look from a traditional maternity session.
Instead of trying to make Las Vegas look like somewhere else, we leaned into Las Vegas being Las Vegas.
Your maternity photos can actually have a personality
One of my favorite things about creative photography is that there really isn't a required formula.
Maybe you love pizza.
Maybe you met at a dive bar.
Maybe you want photos at your favorite arcade.
Maybe you want to recreate a scene from a movie.
Maybe you want to dress completely over-the-top and take photos under neon signs on Fremont Street.
Maybe you just want to do something that makes you laugh when you look at the photos 20 years from now.
That is all fair game.
A creative maternity session can still include the traditional things you want from maternity photos while adding something that makes the session personal.
And you don't necessarily need a huge production or elaborate set to make that happen.
Sometimes the idea is as simple as:
“Let's go get pizza.”
