How to Elope in Las Vegas (Step-by-Step Guide)

If you’re wondering how to elope in Las Vegas, you’re in the right place. Vegas is one of the easiest places in the world to get married—but there are still a few important steps to follow to make sure everything goes smoothly.

This guide breaks down exactly how to elope in Las Vegas in 2026, from getting your marriage license to choosing a location and planning your photos.

Why Elope in Las Vegas?

Las Vegas is known for fast weddings—but it’s also perfect for intentional, personalized elopements.

Here’s why couples choose Vegas:

  • No waiting period for marriage licenses
  • Open 7 days a week
  • Tons of location options (chapels, desert, Strip, etc.)
  • Affordable compared to traditional weddings

Step 1: Get Your Las Vegas Marriage License

Before anything else, you’ll need a marriage license from the:

Clark County Marriage License Bureau

What to know:

  • Both people must be present
  • Bring a valid photo ID
  • No appointment needed
  • Cost is typically around $100
  • Open daily, including weekends and holidays (generally 8 AM – midnight)

Once you get your license, you can get married the same day.

Fun Vegas details:

  • There’s a heart statue outside that’s a popular quick photo spot
  • Around Valentine’s Day, they often do a pop-up marriage license location inside Harry Reid International Airport, making it even easier for couples flying in

Step 2: Choose Your Elopement Location

This is where your day really comes to life.

Popular options include:

  • Desert locations (like Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Mount Charleston, Dry Lake Bed)
  • Scenic water + desert views at Lake Mead National Recreation Area
  • Iconic Vegas chapels
  • The Las Vegas Strip at night
  • Downtown at Fremont Street Experience

💡 Your location affects lighting, privacy, and the overall feel of your photos—so it’s worth choosing intentionally.

Step 3: Book an Officiant or Chapel

To legally get married, you’ll need an officiant.

You have a few options:

1. Chapel Packages
All-in-one, easy, and often include officiant + ceremony setup

2. Independent Officiant
Perfect for outdoor or fully customized elopements

3. Themed / Costume Officiants
Yes—this is Vegas. You can absolutely get married by an Elvis impersonator or other themed officiant if that’s your vibe.

Step 4: Don’t Forget Your Witness(es)

Nevada requires at least one witness to sign your marriage license.

Here are your options:

  • Your photographer can act as your witness (super common)
  • Many chapels provide a witness if needed
  • One of your guests can sign

You can also have up to two witnesses sign if you want multiple names on your license for memory’s sake.

Step 5: Book Your Elopement Photographer (and Content Team)

This is honestly one of the most important parts of your day—your photos are what last.

A good elopement photographer will help you:

  • Plan your timeline
  • Choose the best lighting times
  • Find locations that fit your vibe
  • Pose naturally (so nothing feels awkward)

Some couples also book:

  • A videographer
  • A content creator for behind-the-scenes, phone-style content

👉 I include content creation in most of my packages, so you get both polished photos and real-time moments captured.

Step 6: Plan Your Timeline

Even elopements need a loose plan.

Example timeline:

  • Pick up marriage license
  • Get ready / detail photos
  • Ceremony
  • Golden hour portraits
  • Night photos on the Strip

💡 Timing matters a lot in Vegas—especially in summer when it’s extremely hot.

Step 7: Get Your Marriage Certificate

After your ceremony, your officiant will file your marriage license.

Then you can request your official marriage certificate through the county.

Step 8: Make It Your Own

This is the best part—your elopement doesn’t have to follow any rules.

Couples often include:

  • Outfit changes
  • Multiple locations
  • Private vows
  • Dinner reservations after
  • Fun stops (bars, coffee shops, etc.)

Pro Tips for Eloping in Las Vegas

  • Avoid midday ceremonies in summer (it’s brutal)
  • Sunrise = fewer crowds + better lighting
  • Weekdays are less busy than weekends
  • Have backup indoor options just in case

How Much Does It Cost to Elope in Las Vegas?

It depends on what you want, but here’s a general idea:

  • Marriage license: ~$100
  • Chapel packages: $100–$500+
  • Photographer: varies by coverage
  • Permits (for outdoor locations): varies

Vegas can be super affordable...or elevated and custom.
