When you think about hiring a photographer in Las Vegas, you probably picture a wedding, elopement, or engagement session.
But honestly? Why should those be the only reasons to have professional photos taken?
A birthday, girls’ trip, mother-daughter day, bachelorette party, tea party, or even just an excuse to get dressed up in Las Vegas can be worth documenting too.
Recently, I photographed a group of women celebrating a birthday at Café on the Strip, and the session was actually set up as a birthday gift from the birthday girl’s sister. I loved that idea because instead of giving her something that would eventually get used up or forgotten, she gave her a whole experience and photos to remember it by.
And yes, I am always going to be a fan of that kind of gift.

What Is Café on the Strip in Las Vegas?
If you haven't heard of it yet, Café on the Strip is a high tea experience aboard a double-decker coach that travels along the Las Vegas Strip.
The experience currently departs from SAHARA Las Vegas and lasts about 90 minutes, including boarding. The bus travels along Las Vegas Boulevard with views of some of the Strip's major landmarks along the way.
It is basically afternoon tea meets a Las Vegas sightseeing tour.
The whole thing is decorated around the tea-party aesthetic, so naturally it is a pretty fun setting for photos, especially if your group actually gets dressed up for the occasion.
And if you are already going to spend the money on a special birthday experience, I can definitely understand wanting someone there to photograph it.
How Much Does Café on the Strip Cost?
Café on the Strip currently has several ticket options:
- Just Tea: starting at $59 per person
- General: $99 per person
- Premium: $129 per person
Taxes and service fees are additional, so the final price will be higher than the advertised ticket price.
The higher ticket levels include more of the afternoon tea food service, while the Just Tea ticket is the lower-cost option.
If you are planning this as a birthday, girls' trip, or special event, I would definitely check the current menu and pricing before booking because those details can change.
My Honest Opinion: Is Café on the Strip Worth It?
This is where I'm going to give you my actual opinion instead of pretending every Las Vegas attraction is amazing just because it has a cute Instagram.
I don't personally think the Café on the Strip experience is worth the price for everyone.
If you are booking it primarily because you want a really interesting Las Vegas sightseeing experience, I think there are some limitations.
During our experience, it was difficult to hear the announcer clearly while he was giving information about the Strip. I also felt like we didn't stop at many particularly fun or interesting locations along the way. Since you're on a moving bus, you're mostly experiencing the Strip from your seat rather than getting out and exploring different locations.
The tea selection also felt fairly limited during our visit. If you are expecting a huge traditional tea menu with tons of different varieties to choose from, that wasn't really what I experienced.
But...
If you are a huge tea-party person and the idea of drinking tea while riding around the Las Vegas Strip sounds fantastic to you, then it might absolutely be worth it.
Especially if you're there for the experience rather than expecting it to function like a traditional sightseeing tour.
And let's be honest: sometimes the cute experience is the point.

Worth it if: You love tea parties, getting dressed up, and the idea of seeing the Las Vegas Strip from a different perspective.
Maybe skip it if: You're mainly looking for a sightseeing tour with lots of stops, a big selection of tea, or lots of opportunities to get off the bus and explore.
Photographing a Group at Café on the Strip
From a photography standpoint, this was a fun challenge.
The bus is obviously not a giant open photo studio. There are tight, confined spaces, people moving around, tables and seating to work around, and lighting that changes depending on where the bus is and what is happening outside.
The lighting could change pretty dramatically throughout the session, too.
That's one of those situations where you can't just put everyone in the perfect spot, lock in your settings, and shoot the exact same way for an hour.
You have to adapt.
For event photography, especially in Las Vegas, I'm often working in spaces that weren't necessarily designed with photography in mind. Restaurants, hotel rooms, party spaces, bars, buses, venues, and crowded Strip locations all come with their own challenges.
That's part of why I enjoy event photography.
You don't always get the perfect lighting or a giant open space. You have to figure it out.
And that's exactly what I did here.
We worked with the space we had, moved around when possible, and still got photos of the group that actually felt like them rather than a collection of random snapshots from a tea bus.
Why Hire a Photographer for a Birthday?
This is something I would love to see more people do in Las Vegas.
You don't need to be getting married to justify hiring a photographer.
If your sister is turning 30, your mom is visiting Vegas, your best friends are taking a girls' trip, you're celebrating an engagement, or you just planned an experience that everyone actually got dressed up for...
You can hire a photographer.
You don't have to wait for a milestone that society has decided is "important enough."
I've photographed plenty of things that people might normally just document on their phones, and I think there's something really nice about actually being in the experience instead of having one person constantly trying to take everyone's picture.
And when the photographer is there, everyone gets to be in the photos.
That birthday gift from one sister to another is a perfect example. She didn't just give her sister a photo session. She gave the whole group a reason to have professional photos together while they were already celebrating.

Las Vegas Birthday Photography Beyond the Strip
While this particular session took place on the Las Vegas Strip, I don't only photograph events in the middle of the Strip.
I'm based in the Las Vegas area and photograph celebrations throughout Las Vegas, Henderson, and Boulder City.
That means your event doesn't have to be at a giant resort or tourist attraction to deserve professional photos.

A dressed-up dinner with your friends?
Yep. Those count.
Honestly, I think some of the best photos come from the things that weren't originally considered "photo-worthy."
Would I Do Café on the Strip Again?
For the right person, absolutely.
If you're obsessed with afternoon tea, want a unique Las Vegas activity, love dressing up, and like the idea of seeing the Strip while you sip tea, I can see the appeal.
If you're mostly looking for a sightseeing tour with lots of stops and tons of tea options, I'd probably look at other options first.
But for this particular birthday group, the experience gave us something important: a reason to get everyone together and make some memories.
And that's really what I'm more interested in photographing anyway.
You don't need a wedding, a proposal, or some huge once-in-a-lifetime event to have photos taken.
Sometimes you just need a birthday, your favorite people, and a reason to put on a cute outfit.
And honestly, Las Vegas gives you plenty of reasons.
