Pets Are Just Like Kids in Photo Sessions—And That’s a Good Thing

· Photo Sessions,Pets

If you’ve ever tried to get your dog to sit still for a photo, you know it’s...an adventure. Add a toddler into the mix? Chaos. But honestly? That kind of chaos makes for some incredible photos.

As a lifestyle photographer based in Boulder City, Henderson, and Las Vegas, I’ve had the absolute joy of photographing families that include not just humans, but their furry family members, too. And over time, I’ve learned this big truth: pets are a lot like kids during photo sessions. They’re unpredictable, full of energy, and not overly interested in sitting still for a “perfect” pose—and that’s exactly why I love photographing them.

Go with the Flow

Trying to force your pet (or your child!) to sit still, smile, and behave exactly how you want for a camera? That’s a fast track to stress. And honestly—it never works. Instead, the best thing you can do is let them be themselves. Whether your dog wants to sniff everything in the park or your kid wants to show me their favorite stick, I’m here for it. I’ve built my sessions around fun, flexibility, and flow.

Anxious Energy is Normal

It’s totally normal for animals and little ones to get a little camera shy. A new environment, a stranger pointing a camera at them—it’s a lot! But I promise: once they start to play and settle into their natural rhythm, that’s when the magic happens. I’ll be there, snapping away in the background, quietly capturing the real stuff—the nose boops, the giggles, the tail wags, the unexpected kisses.

So if you’re worried your dog won’t cooperate or your child will be “too wild,” don’t be. That’s all part of the beauty of real-life photography.

Candid > Perfect

In my experience, the best moments come when no one’s trying to be perfect. That messy-haired hug between a kid and their pup? Priceless. The moment your cat randomly joins the scene like a fluffy diva? Gold. These moments are genuine, unposed, and packed with personality—and they’re the photos you’ll look back on and love the most.

That’s why I focus on lifestyle photography in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas, offering relaxed, real sessions for families, couples, and their four-legged besties. I offer photo sessions as short as 30 minutes, so we can get great shots without wearing anyone out (especially the short-legged, furry members of the family).

Sessions Tailored to You

Whether we’re shooting at a dog-friendly park in Henderson, a beautiful neighborhood in Boulder City, or chasing the golden hour glow on the outskirts of Las Vegas, I’ll help you find a location that’s relaxed and meaningful. I also offer guidance on how to prep your pet or child for the session so you feel confident going in—even if the plan is simply to go with the flow.

At the end of the day, it’s not about stiff poses and perfect lighting. It’s about capturing connection, joy, and those little “just us” moments that make your family, your family.

So bring your dog, bring your kiddo, bring your chaos. I’ll bring my camera—and together, we’ll create something beautiful.

🎥 Don’t forget to check out the sweet behind-the-scenes video from one of my recent sessions.
